Leaves & Limbs
Loose Leaf Season
Our vacuum collection always runs October 1 to January 31st. If you're containerizing your leaves, All Star is enforcing our Town Ordinance: No black bags and no yard waste exceeding a 6 by 6 by 3 feet volume (6x6x3), including bags!
Between October 1st and January 31st, All Star performs curbside vacuum collection of loose leaves. This service is provided the next business day following your regularly scheduled trash day. If your trash service day is Monday, leaves will be collected on Tuesday; those with trash service on Friday will have leaves removed on Monday.
During the peak season there may be times the volume of leaves is so great or the leaves are so wet that this schedule may be off by a day or two.
Leaves Only!
Please make sure your piles are free of rocks, sticks, dirt and debris. These can clog up the machines, cause damage and delay this great service! Leaves should be placed behind the curb, not in the gutter or in the drainage ditch. You also have the option to bag your leaves or place them in a cart (no bigger than 50 gallons please!) and they'll be picked up on your regular yard waste day all year long.
Keep Leaf Season Simple
All Star offers an amazing solution! To make yard waste more efficient for everyone, you can purchase a brown, 95-gallon "Yard Waste Only" cart for a low price of $70! This is 50% off retail! All Star will service the containers every week at no additional charge. Call or text All Star at 919-989-1562 if you have questions or if you'd like to order one of these new yard waste containers! The yard waste carts are yours to keep once purchased! The $70 cost may not be available when All Star needs to order more.
With All Star, you enjoy weekly yard waste on the same day as garbage/recycling collection.
Use Only Clear Yard Waste Bags: Black Bags Will Not Be Collected
Black bags are still acceptable for kitchen garbage, they are not acceptable for lawn and leaf debris). It's a matter of efficiency and avoiding confusion. All Star is collecting garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulk items on the same day - that's a lot of trash and debris at the curb for All Star drivers to sort through. They need to see clearly and quickly that those yard waste bags at the curb are indeed leaves and not other trash (each All Star truck picks up a different waste - one is for garbage, one for recycling and one for yard waste only).
You can still rake leaves to the street during our 4-month loose leaf pick-up season that starts October 1st, you are welcome to put loose leaves in Rubbermaid-like containers or bins all year long (as long as they are no bigger than 50 gallons and don't weigh more than 40 pounds), or you can purchase an new All Star Yard Waste container for just $70 for weekly emptying. If you enjoy bagging leaves, please, they must be in clear bags from now on! Clear yard waste bags are available at a variety of locations, and can be ordered online; learn more by visiting our Clear Plastic Recycling Bag Purchase Locations page.
6x6x3 Weekly Limit
All Star follows our 6x6x3 ordinance rule, which states that in total you cannot have more than the equivalent of a 6 feet long, 6 feet deep, 3 feet volume of yard waste at the curb. Yes, you can have loose piles of limbs (cut to the correct sizes), you can have clear bags of leaves and you can have containerized yard waste - you can have it all - but together their total volume must not exceed the 6x6x3 limit each week.
Yard waste that is not prepared properly will not be collected, but All Star will leave a wire tag so you know why!
Not in the Street!
Our ordinance has always clearly stated that yard waste should not be set in the street. It can wash down and clog up storm drains and it can cause traffic hazards. Please set your yard waste piles, bags or containers just back from the curb, not in the roadway.
Because All Star will be collecting yard waste consistently every week, you don't have to worry about yard waste sitting on your grass or out for weeks. Setting your yard waste out in the street can result in fines.
Limb Size
Limbs are not picked up by a giant machine with a claw - they're picked up by a person with their hands. That job is almost impossible when your piles are a massive, tangled mess. Please follow these regulations when placing out your limbs and try to picture whether a human being could actually pick them up and get them into the back of a truck. Limbs have to be cut a specific size and piles also need to be kept a specific size:
- Limbs up to 4 inches in diameter can't be longer than 6 feet.
- Limbs wider than 4 inches in diameter need to be cut into lengths of 2 feet or less.
- Limbs greater than 10 inches in diameter will not be collected.
- A pile of correctly cut limbs should be no more than 6 feet deep from the curb, 6 feet wide and 3 feet high. That's approximately 4 cubic yards picked up every week. If you have multiple piles, the volume of all piles cannot total more than the allowed 6x6x3 dimensions. In other words - we allow customers to create multiple piles if that's convenient for them, but if you were to throw all those piles together in one big pile - that pile cannot exceed 6X6X3 or roughly 4 cubic yards.
- If you have more limbs out than the dimensions above, none of it will be collected - you will receive a notice from All Star that your pile is out of compliance. If you do bring your pile into compliance, they'll pick it up the following week. If you do not, you'll be charged a fee for the yard debris to be picked up.
- Avoid the fee by simply placing the allowed amount of limbs at the curb over the course of a few weeks.
