Downtown Clayton is where it’s happening!  We have mom-and-pop shops that have flourished for decades and new businesses bringing even more variety into downtown. Stroll along our sculpture trail, enjoy a community garden, shop, dine and sip - all in Downtown Clayton.

The Town of Clayton is a North Carolina Main Street Community, designated by the NC Department of Commerce and Main Street and Rural Planning Center. The Town of Clayton and the Downtown Development Association are charged with administering the program at the local level and building a public-private partnership to spur economic development in partnership with the state agency.

NC Downtown Development AssociationThe North Carolina Downtown Development Association (NCDDA) is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the improvement and advocacy of downtown districts throughout the state. Members include downtown development managers, coordinators and Main Street managers; economic developers; town planners; town managers; architects; landscape architects; developers; and other professions related to the development of North Carolina's downtowns. Clayton's Downtown Development Coordinator, Bruce Naegelen, is NCDDA's President-Elect.
